Tuesday, February 11’s devotional. Every person in history stands under the rule of one of two men—Adam or Christ. One man’s actions led to death; the other’s brought life. The difference between them could not be greater.
Paul writes, “For if by the one man’s trespass the many died, how much more have the grace of God and the gift which comes through the grace of the one man Jesus Christ overflowed to the many.” (Romans 5:15)
Adam’s sin didn’t just affect him; it affected all of us. His trespass made us sinners, and because of that, death reigns over all mankind. But Adam was not just an individual; he was the head of fallen humanity. His failure became our inheritance.
Yet, Paul contrasts Adam’s sin with Christ’s gift: “And the gift is not like the one man’s sin, because from one sin came the judgment, resulting in condemnation, but from many trespasses came the gift, resulting in justification.” (Romans 5:16) Adam’s sin brought judgment, but Christ’s obedience brings righteousness.
We were born under Adam’s rule, under the weight of condemnation. But the gospel declares that just as one man’s disobedience made us sinners, one Man’s righteousness can make us justified. What Adam ruined, Christ redeemed.
Paul continues, “If by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:17)
Adam’s kingdom is one of death. It’s like a dark tower with a dark lord standing on the walls. But Christ’s kingdom is a place of light, where those who receive His gift reign in life. Grace doesn’t just save us—it empowers us to reign in righteousness.
Which man do you belong to? Is your life still marked by Adam’s curse—sin, guilt, and death? Or have you received Christ’s grace, stepping into His kingdom of righteousness and life?
Mark urges, “If you are in Adam, you will die in Adam. But if you are in Christ, His righteousness is yours, His life is yours, and His grace will reign over you forever.”
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the grace given in Christ. Help me to live under His reign, not in the shadow of Adam’s failure but in the light of Christ’s victory. Amen.
