I’m writing this week to update you on a change in the life of our church.
As many of you know, our beloved church secretary, Colleen, will be retiring at the end of June. She’s served us faithfully for over 23 years. Her warmth, diligence, love for the Lord, and love for us, have shaped the culture of our church behind the scenes. She will be deeply missed by all the staff, and those she cares so deeply for.
When she decided it was time for retirement earlier this year, we began a search for her successor. We posted the job publicly. In the church, and online. And we kept applications open until Tuesday, 15 April. The executive decided we would give preference to church members, interviewing them first. If no suitable candidate emerged from our membership, we would interview external applicants.
We are pleased to let you know that the executive has appointed Kaitlyn Penrith to the position. She will begin on 1 June, working alongside Colleen for a month to allow a smooth handover.
Many of you already know Kaitlyn. She’s a member of our church. I believe in her character and competence. But because she’s my daughter, this needed to be an executive appointment. So I stepped out of the final decision making process.
Kaitlyn brings experience in administration, reception, digital media, and ministry. She served as secretary to the headmaster at Jabulane Christian Academy. She studied executive support through the University of Cape Town. And completed a 2 year Biblical Counselling course through Grace School of Ministry. She’s organised, cheerful, and ministry-minded.
We’re grateful the Lord has raised up someone young, gifted, and rooted in our church.
Please pray for Kaitlyn as she prepares to step into this role. Pray also for Colleen, as she enters a new season of life. We’ll take time to honour Colleen properly towards the end of June.
