Approved by God, Proven Before Men

4 March 2026

“Whoever serves Christ in this way is acceptable to God and receives human approval.” Mark Penrith slowed us down over that promise. Paul’s words are clear, “Whoever serves Christ in this way is acceptable to God and receives human approval” Romans 14:18. The way he speaks of is the way of surrendered liberty. The way of love. Mark said, “The one who limits liberty for a weaker brother serves Christ.” This is not weakness. It is worship.

We often measure greatness by influence and platform. The kingdom measures differently. Mark reminded us, “Christianity isn’t about what goes into the stomach. It is about what fills the soul.” When you lay down a right for the good of another believer, heaven takes notice. God approves. And over time, people do too. Quiet sacrifice speaks. It strengthens trust. It adorns the gospel in a watching world.

This kind of service flows from freedom. Not fear. Earlier in the sermon Mark warned, “Don’t use your freedom in Christ as a weapon against the cross of Christ.” Instead, we use our freedom as a tool for love. We remember that Christ died for our brother. We remember that the kingdom is bigger than our preferences. When you limit your liberty for someone else, you are not losing ground. You are serving Christ Himself.

So be specific. Identify one preference you can lay down this week. At church. At home. In leadership. Perhaps it is a style, a schedule, a small comfort. Not because you are forced. Because you are free in Christ. Let your children see you defer to your spouse in a decision. Tell them why. Tell them that serving one another honours Jesus. Mark said, “Christians are freed to stop judging others and start judging ourselves.” That freedom creates a home marked by grace.

Ask yourself today, do I care more about defending my rights or displaying Christ. The world defends rights. The kingdom displays a crucified Saviour.

Lord, free me from pride. Teach me to serve Christ by loving others. Make my life acceptable to You and useful to those around me. Amen.
