Paul writes, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2b). Those words call believers to an ongoing, Spirit-empowered renewal that begins in thought and overflows into life. In his sermon, Mark Penrith said, “You are to be reshaped by God. The power to obey these commands comes from outside of you. The power flows from the mercy of the cross.” Transformation is not behaviour modification. It is divine renovation. It starts with new thinking shaped by God’s Word.
Mark explained, “The world has an operating system. Call it WorldOS. It is buggy. It crashes. It tells you that you are not enough.” That’s the world’s pattern—to convince you that your worth depends on achievement, appearance, or approval. God offers something radically different. “He installs GospelOS through His Word,” Mark said. When the gospel renews your mind, it rewrites your code. Old lies are replaced with truth. Guilt is replaced with grace. You think differently before you live differently.
This renewal, Mark continued, “is not a patch for your old behaviour. It is a complete rewrite of your core code.” That’s the heart of sanctification. God’s Word, through the Spirit, transforms what you believe about Him, about yourself, and about the world. The mind is the control centre of life. What fills it shapes everything else. If your inputs are worldly, your outputs will be worldly. But if your inputs are holy, your life begins to reflect His holiness.
Mark reminded us, “You will never drift toward holiness. You must intentionally resist conformity to the world.” Renewal requires time and truth. Begin each day with Scripture before you check your phone. Let God’s Word reset your thinking before the world gets a chance to define it. Even ten minutes in the morning can set the tone for your day. When His truth fills your mind, peace replaces pressure, and worship replaces worry.
Let this habit begin at home. “Parents, your children are being shaped every day,” Mark said. Read a short passage together before school or bedtime. Show them that God’s Word renews the mind. In doing so, you help them build resilience against the world’s lies.
What truth from Scripture needs to rewrite your thinking today?
