The Child Who Rewrites Your Story

13 December 2025

Hope rests on a Person. Mark Penrith declared that “The guarantee is not a plan, but a Person.” Isaiah writes, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders” (Isaiah 9:6 CSB). This Child is no ordinary child. Mark reminded us that He is “Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” The One who carries the government also carries the weight you cannot hold. His shoulders bear what breaks yours. His rule is steady. His reign is certain. His peace is final.

This is why Isaiah’s promise speaks directly into our fears. We try to hold our own stories together. We try to manage stress, pressure, shame, and future uncertainty. But Mark insisted that “the promise rests on the Lord’s Person.” Not on our strength. Not on our performance. Jesus is the divine Son given for us. Isaiah continues, “Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end” (Isaiah 9:7 CSB). The Messiah does not lose elections. He does not grow weary. His kingdom does not fade. Mark said, “His rule is with justice. His rule is with righteousness.” This means your future rests on a King who cannot fail.

Think about the weight on your shoulders this week. Work stress. Parenting pressure. Old shame that still visits. Quiet fears about tomorrow. Mark reminded us that “the Lord accomplishes this by His zeal.” That zeal secured your King. That zeal secured your redemption. That zeal secures your future. You are held by divine determination. You are kept by covenant love. Speak this aloud tomorrow before work, Jesus carries my government. Jesus carries my shame. Jesus carries my future. Entrust one fear to Him. Put it into His hands as an act of surrender.

Bring your family into this truth. Read Isaiah 9:6 together tonight. Ask your children which name of Jesus they love most and why. Let them speak of the Wonderful Counsellor who guides them, the Mighty God who protects them, the Everlasting Father who cares for them, the Prince of Peace who calms them. Mark said, “This is Emmanuel. God with us.” Let that truth shape the atmosphere of your home.

If Jesus truly reigns forever, what part of your life must come under His shoulders today?

Prayer:
Lord, help us trust the Child who carries all things. Place our fears under His reign and our hope in His name. Amen.
