We’re on mission at Benoni Baptist Church to reach Benoni with the gospel, and equip all for life. Our facilities enable that goal.
It’s very clear that the Lord is working in our community. One of the ways is through the imagination and generosity of our members. Over the past few months a number of people have offered ideas, dreaming of facility upgrades and improvements. Others have offered to fund a number of projects. Our executive, and church, have also approved a number of projects.
Below is a list of potential future projects, and projects that have been completed. We have also included a number of maintenance tasks which need to be completed. The intention is to bring the congregation into our confidence as we endeavour to lead Benoni Baptist Church to reach Benoni with the gospel, and equip all for life.
All potential projects will go through our standard decision making processes.
Our hope that our members will rally to this renovation effort. Some will dream. Some will give. Some will do. This renovation effort will not be successful because of the generosity of a few, but with the sacrifice of the many.
Lobby
Remove cornerstone, make the wall good and paint.
Remove the A.B. Brett commemorative stone and relocate it to the garden of remembrance, make the wall good and paint.
Rhinolite, plaster & paint undercoat side walls.
TV or projector for rolling slides and information.
Entrance to main hall
We need a pedestrian mat between lobby and fellowship hall, set into the concrete to match the pedestrian mat at the front entrance.
Straighten up the cross on the wall outside the lobby.
Install cornerstone to the left of the entrance.
Move centenary plague under the cornerstone.
Main hall
Replace the pews with chairs in the main hall.
New doors for the baptismal bath.
Update our CoC’s.
Mothers’ room
Airconditioning.
Paint.
Decorate with babies theme.
Toilets
Clean / Paint / varnish toilet doors in the fellowship hall.
Roofing need major maintenance.
Library
Supply and Install carpets.
Fellowship Hall
Remove curtains at kitchen nook; supply and install aluminium & glass folding stacking window to close off kitchen.
Paint the passage and toilets in the Fellowship hall.
Repair / replace ceiling boards in Fellowship Hall where sagging.
Sliding doors and tented area.
Chase walls and install conduits in wall with lights witches and plug boxes and cabling concealed (neat solution).
Supply and Install Acoustic / Decorative wall panels on back wall for sound dampering (to design).
Supply and Install Acoustic / Decorative wallpanels on side walls, at class rooms with cut-outs for cabling and switches (to design)
Supply and Install new glass & aluminium interior doors (5x single & 1x double).
Supply and Install carpet tiles.
Supply and install venetian blinds to exterior windows.
Supply and install new carpet tiles on stages.
Repair the pool table.
Sunday school classes
Pinboard (Enviro PET) – supply and install onto melamine panel next to BIC.

Store room
Tidy up the wiring.
Demolish wall between meeting room and store room, build in a lintel, plaster, rhinolite and paint walls (get structural engineer’s approval for removal of wall ??).

Maintenance tasks
Fire extinguisher needs to be rehung in the lobby.
Fire extinguisher needs to be painted, rehung, and signs need to be installed in the main hall storeroom.
Supply and install new anti-slip stair strips to slate stairs (clear strips) in hallway.
Soap brackets need to removed, and the wall repainted in passage toilet.
Hang up Soap Dispenser and Hand paper towel stand in passage toilet.
Electrician to reconnect the lights in the main hall storeroom (needs scaffolding).
Electrician to replace the light in chandelier in the main hall (needs scaffolding).
Electrician to replace handle on the electric box in the main hall.
Paint baptismal pool.
Front fan needs to be balanced in the main hall (needs scaffolding).
New doorhandles on fire cupboard.
Trunking for wiring to speaker (trunking and wiring) in mother’s room.
Clean light fittings in library.
Install ceiling fan in library.
Spray wicker chairs and table white (one of the chairs needs to be fixed) in library.
Install a new light fitting in library storeroom.
Plugs on pillars in fellowship hall.
Clean light in kitchen.
Fix broken cupboards (identify broken cupboards, install bin board, new skirtings) in kitchen.
Replace leaking tap in kitchen.
Tap in men’s toilet needs to be repaired fellowship hall.
The light needs to be fixed in fellowship hall toilet.
Clean urinal, repair rusted pipe, and paint in fellowship hall toilet.
Garden pots need to be painted.
Gutter by fellowship hall needs to be repaired.
Jungle gym needs to be renovated (pool noodles, sanding, paint).
Hooks to hold all doors around the campus.

How do we get the dreams and projects above done? Well, through the giving of our people. Over the past year our members have been so faithful in their giving. And generous too. I’m reminded of 1 Chronicles 29:14, But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your own hand.
We take up an offering during the service. But, EFTs are a cheaper, more convenient, safer way of transferring money. We encourage members to make electronic transfers.
