A brief report on my time in America

I thought it’d be wise to give a brief report on my time in America.

Why did I go? I attended the Shepherds Conference, an annual gathering designed to challenge and encourage men in church leadership in their commitment to biblical ministry. Hosted at Grace Community Church, where John MacArthur serves as senior pastor, the conference featured speakers such as Michael Reeves, H.B. Charles Jr., Paul Washer, Conrad Mbewe, and more. Worship was led by Bob Kauflin as well as Keith and Kristyn Getty. While John MacArthur was too frail to preach this year, his influence on the conference remained evident.

What did I learn? This year’s focus was missions. I was blessed by a number of excellent sermons on the subject, as well as insightful Q&A sessions covering topics such as church security, missionary management, equipping a missions committee, and engaging in short-term missions. I also returned with a shelf full of books that will enrich my ministry, and resource the church, in the months ahead.

What happened while I was away? I’m grateful to be part of a team. While I was away, the elders faithfully preached—Robin on the first Sunday, David on the second. Midweek ministries continued, with Gerhard taking on my Wednesday Bible study responsibilities. Meanwhile, new ground was broken—Lance launched a young adults’ Bible study last week, and our youth ministry kicks off this week. I praise the Lord for the depth He has given us in our congregation.

What am I looking forward to now that I’m back? I look forward to the work of the ministry—preaching, shepherding, and walking alongside each of you. I’m excited to meet, to plan, to dream about the future of our church together with the elders and with you. My heart remains firmly rooted here, and my desire is to serve Christ in Benoni for His glory.

Thank you for your prayers, your encouragement, and your faithfulness. May we press on together, striving side by side for the faith of the gospel.
