Nothing in All Creation

God is for us

Saturday, 19 July’s devotional.

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38–39, CSB).

Paul speaks with settled certainty. “I am persuaded,” he writes. That word is not casual. It is anchored, full of conviction. Mark explains, “For I am persuaded that no power in existence can sever you from God’s love in Christ.” Paul is not speculating. He is declaring what he knows to be true, even in suffering.

Look at what he names: death and life, angels and rulers, the present and the future, powers, height and depth, every created thing. The list is exhaustive. No category is missed. “No force in hell. No terror on earth. No failure within you,” Mark says, “can sever you from God’s love.”

This is not a sentimental claim. It is rooted in the gospel. The cross is the proof. “Christ’s hold on you is eternal,” Mark says, “Your security rests wholly in His relentless character, never your fragile performance.” What God has done in Christ can’t be undone by anything in all creation.

So why do we feel like God’s love is distant? Sometimes fear grips us. Sometimes failure whispers shame. Sometimes chaos clouds our sight. But Scripture’s answer is unchanging: Nothing has the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Mark gives us a picture: “Picture a child, white-knuckling dad’s hand in a thunderstorm. Fear screams he might be abandoned. But dad’s grip tightens where theirs weakens. So it is with Christ.” Even when your grasp weakens, His grip holds.

Tonight before bed, list three things—big or small—that couldn’t separate you from God’s love today. Thank Him for each.

Create a “love wall” on the fridge. Each person adds a sticky note naming something that reminds them of God’s unbreakable love. Let it grow as a testimony to His faithfulness.

Which “nothing” feels most threatening in your world right now—and how does this promise challenge you to trust Him more?

Lord, when fears rise and strength fades, help me trust that nothing can separate me from Your love. Hold me fast tonight. Amen.
