Ruth’s first day in Boaz’s field ended with remarkable provision, but the story did not stop there. Scripture tells us, “Ruth stayed close to Boaz’s female servants and gathered grain until the barley and the wheat harvests were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law” (Ruth 2:23, CSB). In his sermon, Mark Penrith highlights the significance of this verse, saying, “Not a single day’s wage. Months of care. Not a single act of kindness. A pattern of protection.” Boaz’s faithfulness was not momentary. It endured day after day.
For approximately three months, Ruth continued to work under Boaz’s care. Every morning she entered the fields knowing she would be protected and provided for. Mark notes that “Boaz did not rescue her once, he sheltered her daily.” The redeemer’s provision became a steady reality in Ruth’s life. She did not have to wonder each day whether Boaz would suddenly abandon her. His faithfulness remained constant throughout the harvest season.
This ongoing care brought stability to both Ruth and Naomi. Mark explains, “Naomi arrived empty and bitter. Now she sees good. Ruth arrived foreign and vulnerable. Now she labours safely.” The redeemer’s kindness did more than meet immediate needs. It created lasting security. Hope was no longer based on a single good day. Hope rested on the proven faithfulness of the redeemer who continued to provide.
The same truth encourages believers today. Boaz points beyond himself to Jesus Christ. Mark reminds us, “The greater Boaz. The faithful Redeemer. The One who restores everlasting hope.” Christ does not save His people and then leave them to fend for themselves. He sustains them. He intercedes for them. He keeps them. His faithfulness does not fluctuate with our circumstances. Because He lives, our hope remains secure. As Mark declares, “God’s provision through a faithful redeemer restores hope. Not hope that flickers. Not hope that fades. Hope that endures.”
Perhaps you already know the challenge waiting for you this week. It may involve your work, your family, your health, or your future. Instead of focusing on the difficulty, focus on the faithfulness of Christ. The Christian life is not built on changing circumstances. It is built on an unchanging Saviour. Before bed tonight, remind your children that Jesus cares for His people every day, not just on Sundays. Then thank Him together for His constant care.
