Paul describes the purpose of his ministry as being “for the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness.” Truth is not merely information we collect. It is truth that changes us. Mark Penrith reminded us, “Salvation looks like something.” When God saves us, His truth begins to reshape the way we think, speak, and live. The gospel does not leave us where it found us.
That means biblical knowledge must reach beyond our minds. Mark said, “God’s truth does not leave you unchanged. It presses into your parenting. It confronts your marriage. It exposes your secret thoughts.” Scripture speaks directly into ordinary life. Psalm 119:11 says, “I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.” The Word moves from the page into the heart, and from the heart into our actions.
Think about the pressures waiting for you today. Perhaps your children will test your patience. A colleague may frustrate you. Your marriage may require another difficult conversation. Your workload may feel impossible. Those moments reveal what we really believe. Mark put it this way: “They expose what you really believe. Not what you say you believe. What you actually trust.” Instead of only asking, “How do I get through this?” ask, “What does God’s Word teach me about how I should respond?”
This requires more than casual Bible reading. We need to study God’s Word and bring it into the specific pressures we face. Mark urged us, “Take the text of Scripture and press it into the chaos of your life.” Bring your impatience to Scripture. Bring your anxiety. Bring your bitterness. Let God’s truth challenge the assumptions that control your reactions. Psalm 119:9 asks, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping your word.” God’s Word gives us a path for faithful living.
Then something beautiful happens. As truth takes root, godliness grows. Mark described the result as “Authentic. Spirit-wrought. Overflowing as patience. Kindness. Grace.” That is what we want in our homes, marriages, workplaces, and churches. We do not obey to earn God’s favour. We obey because God’s grace has already changed us. Today, identify one pressure you are facing and deliberately bring it under the authority of God’s Word.
Where in your life do you most need biblical truth to move from your head into your reactions?
Prayer: Father, plant Your Word deeply in my heart. Help Your truth shape my thoughts, reactions, and relationships today. Produce genuine godliness in me by Your Spirit. Amen.
