The executive invites written nominations for deacons

Servant leadership reflects the heart of Christ. Jesus said the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve. The Christian life is a call to humble, active service. Scripture teaches that some believers are especially gifted to serve. And that recognised deacons serve Christ by serving His church. Those who serve in this role must live dignified lives. Be spiritually mature. And lead stable homes. We also understand from 1 Timothy 3 that both men and women may serve in this capacity. Scripture does not prescribe every function of a deacon. But it clearly sets the character required. At Benoni Baptist Church, deacons serve in practical ministries for a fixed term. To the glory of God and for the good of His people.

Our constitution outlines the process we follow. From time to time, the executive invites written nominations from the church. After considering all nominations, suitable candidates may be identified. And, where necessary, enter a six-month period of testing. The executive may then present recommended candidates to the church at a general meeting. With prior notice given. An appointment requires a favourable ballot of at least 75% of members present and voting. Deacons serve a two-year term and may be recommended for a further term. Provision is also made, if required, for removal through the same careful process. This ensures both biblical faithfulness and congregational responsibility.

Here is the call. Please prayerfully consider who among our membership fits these biblical qualifications. If you would like to nominate someone, you may do so using this form: (https://benonibaptistchurch.churchcenter.com/people/forms/1029475). You may also contact the church office to make a written submission. Each nomination requires a seconder. Let us seek the Lord together as He raises up servants for His church.
