At our last general meeting we shared the possibility of a partnership. Between Benoni Baptist Church and Dunnottar Baptist Church. We’re now ready to move forward. This communication is notice of a special general meeting. We will hold the meeting on Sunday, 27 July, after the morning service. The proposal is, Acceptance of the request from Dunnottar Baptist Church for moderation by Benoni Baptist Church.
What will this mean?
We believe Dunnottar Baptist Church can be restored to gospel health. But they need help. Their membership is small. Their leadership is fragile. Their resources are few. They have an acting pastor. They have a building. They have people. But they need a partner. A church like ours, with healthy DNA, to stand with them. To walk beside them. To help them become self-governing, self-supporting, and self-propagating.
If approved, we will get involved in preaching, consulting, and supporting. We will assist with establishing membership. We will help with the development of leaders. We will review their constitution and statement of faith, strengthening administrative practices. And we will encourage ministries like Sunday school, outreach, and men’s and women’s ministry.
We will also meet with Dunnottar’s acting pastor, Bongani Cele, and their small leadership group regularly. To pray, to guide, to serve. The aim is not to take over, but to raise up. To strengthen what remains. To help them reach Dunnottar with the gospel, and equip all for life. And then to hand back, and step away.
This isn’t a forever commitment. But it will take time. We expect this partnership to last 6 to 18 months. Long enough to build trust. Long enough to bring structure. Long enough to bear fruit.
This is something we are doing in cooperation with the Baptist Northern Association. And Christ Baptist Church in Polokwane. We will also encourage other churches on the Eastrand to get involved.
Should you have any questions come speak to the elders. Our next elders meeting is Thursday, 3 July at 3:30pm in my study. Members are always welcome to attend the first part of any meeting. Please let us know beforehand by emailing office@benonibaptistchurch.com.
Here is a practical way you may grow a heart for the work. On Sunday, 20 July, Robin Sammons will be going to preach at Dunnottar Baptist Church. If you join him you can help us get a feel for them, and help them meet us. Please pray. Please plan to attend. And please ask the Lord to use our church to serve the wider body of Christ with wisdom, courage, and grace.
