Paul writes, “I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship” (Romans 12:1b). True worship is not measured by performance but by devotion. In his sermon, Mark Penrith said, “The logical response to God’s mercy is to surrender your entire life as an ongoing act of worship pleasing to God.” God delights not in part-time obedience but in wholehearted surrender. A holy life is the sweetest worship.
Mark explained, “This call radically redefines worship. It shifts the focus from external ritual to the internal, continuous offering of your entire life.” Holiness, therefore, is not a compartment of the Christian life. It is the atmosphere in which the Christian life is lived. To be holy means to be set apart, to belong entirely to God. Every moment, every task, every word can become an act of worship when done in devotion to Him.
Mark continued, “This worship is true because it is internal and life-encompassing. It is logical precisely because it is the only rational reply to the mercies of God we have received.” The world measures worth by results. God measures it by devotion. That means your worth at work is not found in promotions or productivity but in pleasing the Lord. The way you answer emails, handle pressure, or speak to colleagues can either honour or hinder your worship. Ask yourself before each task, “Will this please God?”
Mark reminded us that “The cross makes this sacrifice possible. The cross makes it pleasing.” The Christian’s motivation is not fear or guilt but gratitude. You are accepted because of Christ’s sacrifice. Therefore, your life becomes an offering of thanks. When you walk in holiness—when you speak truth, show kindness, and live faithfully—you are presenting a song of worship that God delights to hear.
Model this in your home. Your children learn worship by watching you. The tone of your words, the patience you show, and the way you forgive teach them what holy devotion looks like. Holiness is caught more than taught.
What daily habit can you reshape to make it pleasing to God?
Prayer: Holy God, teach me to live in a way that pleases You. Let my actions become songs of worship. Amen.
