In 1 Timothy 4, the apostle Paul writes to Timothy. He lays before him a list of virtues to pursue. And duties to embrace. And then he issues a searching command. Practise these things. Be committed to them. So that your progress may be evident to all.
As 2025 draws to a close, take stock. How has your spiritual progress been? Have you grown in manifesting the fruit of the Spirit? Are you increasing in your knowledge of the things of God? Are you using your spiritual gifts for the edification of the body with greater faithfulness and effect? Is your progress evident? To yourself? To others?
Here are some simple, intentional ways to set yourself up for growth in 2026.
- Participate in our daily Bible reading. From Monday to Sunday we read a few chapters of God’s Word together. Not rushing. Not skimming. Steadily feeding on Scripture.
- Receive our daily devotional. From Monday to Saturday we publish a short reflection flowing out of the previous Sunday’s sermon. A way to keep the Word before you. And working in you.
- Receive a daily catechism. Monday to Saturday we reflect on one question and answer that grounds us in the faith once delivered to the saints. Clear truth. Tested truth. Nourishing truth.
- Get Connected. We begin by belonging. God never intended His people to follow Christ in isolation. The early church devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. Being connected means gathering with God’s people on Sundays. Joining a small group. And forming relationships that encourage perseverance and faithfulness.
- Get Equipped. We grow through the Word. Discipleship requires training. That is why we prioritise Bible teaching from the pulpit and around the table. It is why we run membership classes. Men’s and women’s ministries. Leadership development. Every believer must be equipped for life and service through the truth of Scripture.
- Get Involved. We mature as we serve. The Holy Spirit gives each believer gifts for the building up of the body. Whether welcoming at the door. Teaching children. Visiting the sick. Or serving quietly behind the scenes. Every act of service strengthens the church and glorifies Christ.
Practise these things. Be committed to them. And by God’s grace, let your progress be evident to all.
