The King Who Deserves Loud Praise

2 April 2025

The road into Jerusalem comes alive with praise. Mark Penrith writes, “This is not a quiet procession. This is homage.” The scene builds quickly. Scripture says, “A very large crowd spread their clothes on the road; others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them on the road” (Matthew 21:8). This is visible devotion. Public honour. The King is here, and the people respond.

The noise rises. “Then the crowd erupts.” Matthew records their cry, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” (Matthew 21:9). Mark explains, “Hosanna means Save now! It is a plea. It is praise. It is both.” Their voices carry hope. Their words carry truth. They recognise the King, even if not fully.

This praise is not restrained. “They are not passive. They are not polite. They are raucous. Undignified. Unforgettable. Joy-filled.” The crowd does not hide its devotion. Cloaks fall. Branches wave. Voices rise. Hearts overflow. Mark compares it to a stadium roar, “Voices crack. A tear of pride rolls down my cheek.” This is what happens when joy cannot stay contained.

Yet this moment confronts you. You know Christ. You sing on Sunday. But what about Monday? “They are not passive.” But often you are. Silent faith. Private devotion. Careful words. You avoid His name where it matters most. But the King who entered Jerusalem deserves more. He deserves visible praise. Audible praise. Daily praise.

So act today. Speak of Christ. Not vaguely. Not safely. Clearly. Mention His name in a conversation where it would normally stay hidden. Let your colleagues hear what matters to you. Let your words reflect your King. “They are not passive. They are not polite.” Let that shape your witness.

Bring this into your home. “They shout, Hosanna to the Son of David!” Ask your children why. Why do we praise Jesus? Let them answer. Guide them. Teach them. Show them that praise is not just sung. It is lived. It is spoken. It is seen.

“The crowds recognise their deliverer, erupting in raucous celebration of Him as King, Messiah, and Saviour.” He is worthy of no less today.

Is your praise of Christ private and quiet, or visible and bold?

Lord Jesus, You are worthy of loud praise. Fill my heart with joy, and make my words bold to speak of You today. Amen.
