The Nations Were Always in His Plan

1 May 2026

It is easy to shrink the Christian life to our own immediate concerns. Work. Family. Bills. Pressures. Yet Paul lifts our eyes beyond ourselves. The gospel has been made known “to advance the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles” (Romans 16:26). That means the saving purpose of God has always stretched to the nations. Mark Penrith said, “We are not an afterthought. We were always in His plan.” What a stabilising truth. Even ordinary believers in Benoni belong to a global story of gospel advance.

Paul wanted the Roman church to see this clearly. Jew and Gentile alike were gathered into one redeemed people. This was no late adjustment in God’s purposes. Mark said, “The eternal God decreed that His gospel would reach us and change us. In Benoni. South Africa. The ends of the earth.” Behold the wonder. Your conversion was not an isolated event. It was part of a sovereign design reaching to the nations. The same God who saves you sends His gospel beyond you.

And this enlarges ordinary Christian living. We are not spectators in God’s mission. We are participants. Mark said, “The obedience of faith was not reserved for Jews alone. But to all who would believe.” That includes us. And it means our prayers, witness, giving, and ordinary faithfulness matter in the spread of the gospel. Even hidden obedience joins a global work.

So lift your eyes today beyond your own burdens. Pray for one missionary by name. Pray for one unreached people group. Pray for one unbelieving friend. Mark said, “Pray for the advance of obedient faith.” Do that today. Let your prayers stretch as wide as God’s purposes. What happens when we pray for the nations? Our hearts enlarge. Our concerns are reordered. Our faith grows.

Bring this vision into your home as well. Show your children a country on a map. Pray together for people there to hear of Christ. Let them know the church is bigger than our street, our suburb, even our nation. Mark said, “Together with all believers, in every place, and all through time. One body. One hope.” Teach them that early.

And ask yourself this question. How does seeing yourself as part of God’s global mission change ordinary Christian living? It changes how you pray. How you give. How you speak. How you live Monday morning.

“We were always in His plan.” Let that steady and enlarge your heart today.

Lord, lift our eyes to the nations, deepen our joy in Your global purpose, and make us faithful participants in Your gospel mission. Amen.
