Our faith does not stop at the church door. Mark Penrith reminds us that Paul moves from the household to the workplace. He says, “Grace produces godliness in every role, in every season, in every station.” Titus 2:9–10 brings ordinary work under the authority of the gospel. Paul calls believers to submit to authority, to be trustworthy, and to “demonstrate utter faithfulness.” Our work matters because our work displays what we believe.
Paul does not separate Sunday faith from Monday work. He calls Christians to serve with integrity even when the work feels ordinary or difficult. Mark says, “The world is watching. Our lives are not private. Our conduct is not inconsequential.” That includes the office, the workshop, the classroom, the construction site, the boardroom, and every place where we carry responsibility. Titus says that faithful conduct should result in this: “so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Saviour in everything.” Our work can make the gospel look beautiful.
That makes faithfulness deeply practical. Do what you promised. Arrive when you said you would. Finish the task. Speak respectfully. Refuse to complain. Do honest work when nobody checks. Mark asks, “Does the gospel hang its head in shame because of a lazy hand or a grumbling spirit?” That question reaches beyond productivity. It reaches character. A Christian should be the kind of employee, colleague, employer, or servant whose conduct gives others a reason to take the gospel seriously.
Your children are watching too. They need to see that following Jesus applies to ordinary responsibilities. Tell them how your work gives you an opportunity to honour Christ. Explain why you work honestly when nobody is watching. Show them that faithfulness matters even when the task feels small. Mark reminds us, “Grace isn’t idle. Grace isn’t passive. Grace works. Grace shapes. Grace forms. Grace produces godliness in the most ordinary places of our lives.” Your work is one of those ordinary places.
Father, thank You for giving me work and responsibilities through which I can honour Christ. Help me to demonstrate utter faithfulness today. Guard me from laziness, dishonesty, and complaining. Let my work adorn the teaching of the gospel in everything. Amen.
