“Instead, think sensibly, as God has distributed a measure of faith to each one.”
Faith is more than belief. It is vision. It is the divine lens that allows us to see ourselves rightly before God. Paul calls believers to “think sensibly.” Mark explains, “Faith becomes your divine lens. Faith serves as your supernatural ability to see reality as God sees reality.” Through this lens, pride fades and clarity comes. Without it, we either exalt ourselves or despise ourselves. But when faith looks at the cross, it tells the truth.
Faith begins with grace. Paul says this faith is “distributed” by God. It is not self-made or self-sustained. It is a gift. Mark writes, “He provides what we need to live by what He commands. He supplies according to His demands.” That means you do not generate faith by willpower. You receive it by grace. God gives each believer “a measure of faith.” He knows your frame. He knows what you need. Faith equips you to obey, to serve, to think soberly.
This sober thinking is not self-loathing. It is honesty. “Now you can be honest about who you really are,” Mark says. You are not called to think less of yourself, but to think rightly of yourself. Faith removes the distortions. It teaches you to see that “you are the creature, He is the Creator.” It reminds you that “you are the sinner, He is the Saviour.” Faith levels the proud heart and lifts the crushed spirit. It is the gift that restores balance.
When faith looks at the cross, it humbles and heals. “The cross reveals your true state. You are far more sinful and flawed than you ever dared believe.” Yet, “you are also far more loved and valued than you ever dared hope.” Faith allows you to hold both truths without despair. You are deeply broken. And you are profoundly loved. That is sober judgment. That is honest faith.
So today, think sensibly. Look through the lens of faith. Let grace shape your self-understanding. Let the cross define your worth. Then serve with confidence, not pride. “Be honest about who you really are, empowered by the faith God has given you.”
Prayer:
Lord, give me faith to see myself as You see me. Keep me from pride and from despair. Let my faith rest in Your grace and live for Your glory. Amen.
