If we ever question whether God truly cares for us, the cross gives us the clearest answer. Evans asks, “To believers in the room, what is the greatest compelling reason for you to leave a worry-free life this morning?” He then points us to Christ: “If you ever question whether God cares for you, if you ever question whether he cares for you, look to the cross, the cross of Christ, and learn from it.” Scripture gives us the same assurance: “He did not even spare his own Son but gave him up for us all. How will he not also with him grant us everything?” (Romans 8:32, CSB). The Father has already given us His greatest gift. We can therefore trust Him with our daily needs.
The cross changes how we understand God’s provision. We often measure God’s care by whether our circumstances feel comfortable. When the bills are paid, the plans succeed, and the future looks secure, we find it easy to believe that God cares. But the gospel gives us something far stronger than temporary comfort. God gave His Son to secure our eternal salvation. Our greatest need was not food, clothing, money, or earthly security. Our greatest need was forgiveness and reconciliation with God. If the Father has provided for that greatest need at such tremendous cost, we have every reason to trust Him with the smaller needs of this present life.
Evans says, “At the cross of Christ, you’ll be thankful to learn that the father did not just provide what can sustain you temporarily. Not at all. He provided his one and only begotten son so that he might provide you with eternal life.” That truth silences the lie that we must secure everything for ourselves. Jesus commands us, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you” (Matthew 6:33, CSB). The cross assures us that God’s purposes are good. We can work faithfully, plan wisely, steward our resources, and still rest in the sovereign Father who knows our future.
When anxiety rises today, thank God for the gospel before asking Him to change your circumstances. Take your worries to the cross and remember what God has already done for you in Christ. If you have children, talk together about how Jesus’ sacrifice demonstrates God’s love more clearly than any earthly blessing. Remind them that possessions can disappear, careers can change, and plans can fail, but the salvation Christ purchased cannot be taken away. Ask yourself: How does remembering the cross reshape the way I view today’s worries?
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving Your Son for us. When worry fills my mind, turn my eyes toward the cross and remind me that You have already provided my greatest need. Forgive me when I doubt Your care because of difficult circumstances. Help me to trust You with today’s needs and tomorrow’s uncertainties. Teach my family to treasure Christ above every earthly blessing and to use everything You provide for Your kingdom and Your glory. Thank You that our eternal future rests securely in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
