Carry Your Own Load

7 June 2025

“For each person will have to carry his own load” (Galatians 6:5, CSB).

Paul’s final instruction lands like a quiet challenge. After calling the church to carry one another’s burdens, he now insists on personal responsibility. This is not a contradiction. It is a call to maturity. As Mark said, “Load here is your daily obedience. Your parenting, your integrity at work. You are responsible to carry your own load.”

We are not saved by our works, but we are saved to walk in them. Faithfulness is not about comparing our load to someone else’s. It is about stewarding what God has placed in our hands. Mark warned, “You can’t blame your spiritual drift on your boss, your wife, or your kids. Own your walk with God.” That ownership is part of gospel transformation. When Jesus restores us, He doesn’t just remove the burden of guilt. He equips us to carry the weight of obedience.

Paul’s language in this verse echoes his earlier call: “Let each person examine his own work” (Galatians 6:4, CSB). Mark explained, “Maturity means helping others stand while staying focused on your race. No comparisons. No excuses. Just grace-driven faithfulness.” That kind of maturity doesn’t emerge overnight. It’s built in quiet moments—when you get up early to pray, confess sin to a brother, or lead your family through a passage of Scripture after dinner.

This text speaks clearly to fathers. Your children do not need perfection. They need presence. Mark said, “Own your own load.” Show them what it means to carry spiritual responsibility with joy. Don’t outsource their discipleship to the church. Let them see you walk with Christ in the ordinary. Teach them by example that being a man of God means showing up—at work, at home, and in your walk with the Lord.

Galatians 6:5 doesn’t give us permission to be independent. It calls us to be intentional. Each of us has a role in the body of Christ. Each of us has a race to run. And each of us will give an account.

Lord, give me strength to carry the responsibilities You have entrusted to me. Help me walk faithfully, not looking sideways, but looking to Christ. Amen.
