Tuesday, 15 July’s devotional.
“Who can bring an accusation against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies” (Romans 8:33, CSB).
Accusations come easily. From the enemy, from the world, even from within. You remember the failure, the argument you wish you could take back, the compromise you regret. But the Judge of heaven has spoken first, and His verdict stands forever. As Mark said, “No accusation will stand against God’s chosen, because God is the One who declared them righteous.”
In his sermon, Mark draws you into the scene, “You stand in a Roman courtroom. Marble floors. Judge’s bench before you. God’s heavenly court is in session.” The accuser steps forward with a list of your faults—doubts, inconsistency, sin. “Failure!” he shouts. “This one’s faith wavers! Their repentance is shallow!” You shrink under the weight.
But then the Judge’s voice cuts through the silence, “I foreknew this one. I predestined this one. I called this one. I justified this one.” No human voice, no devilish scheme, no condemning conscience can overturn His ruling. Mark reminds us that justification “is a verdict. He has pronounced you legally acquitted. Forever pardoned.”
You are not merely tolerated. You are chosen. “God has chosen you relationally. Selected you relationally. Elected you relationally,” Mark says. He tells the story of adopting his son, the desire, the process, the moment of naming and claiming. It’s a picture of God’s heart. You were not an accident. You were chosen.
So, when Satan accuses, when your conscience stings, you can declare, “God justifies me.” This is no self-help mantra. It is heaven’s decree. God has “satisfied His own justice by charging your guilt to Christ. And then God credits Christ’s perfect obedience to you.”
Today, set a one-minute timer during lunch or a coffee break. When it goes off, silence every accusing voice by declaring out loud, “God justifies me.” Let your heart rest in that gospel truth.
Tonight, have each person write one thing they’re thankful God has forgiven. Read them aloud. Pray briefly. Celebrate the grace of a God who justifies.
What accusation or regret do you need to hand back to the One who has already declared you righteous?
Lord, when accusations rise, help me remember Your verdict. Thank You for declaring me righteous through Christ. Teach me to live secure in Your courtroom. Amen.
