Christ Abolished Death

Thursday October 2

This has now been made evident through the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

Death. Man’s oldest enemy. His fiercest foe. It stalks every generation. It mocks human strength. It silences kings and beggars alike. Yet here—Paul declares—Christ has abolished death.

He did not merely weaken it. He destroyed it. He shattered its dominion. He broke its chains. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus turned the grave into a doorway. A doorway from this world of sin, pain, and persecution… into the world of glory, peace, and purity.

Paul writes these words from a dungeon. Chains on his wrists. Death close at hand. Yet he does not tremble. Why? Because Christ has conquered death. Immortality now shines with clarity. Life beyond the grave is no longer shadowed in mystery. Christ has brought it to light through the gospel.

Hear the triumphant cry of 1 Corinthians 15: Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin. The power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

This truth transforms how we suffer. Death is no longer the end. It is the threshold of glory. Christ’s victory arms the believer with courage. It steels the soul in the face of persecution. It anchors the heart when the cost is high.

Therefore… value the gospel. Through it, life and immortality have been revealed. Let this hope fuel your labour. Let it steady your steps. Be steadfast. Immovable. Always excelling in the Lord’s work. Your labour is not in vain.

Brother… Sister… Look death in the eye. See it broken. See it conquered. Christ reigns. Death is defeated. Let this embolden your witness today.
