Grace to Serve

30 October 2025

“According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts.”

Service begins with grace. Paul writes, “According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts.” Mark explains, “This is an invitation to use the power God supplies.” You do not serve in your own strength. You serve with His. Spiritual gifts are not proof of your worth, they are expressions of God’s kindness. When God calls you to serve, He also equips you to serve. “He supplies according to His demands.”

Your gift is not random. It comes from the risen Christ. Mark says, “This grace brings spiritual gifts. Spirit-empowered abilities.” These gifts are not earned. They are not achievements. They are grace. God gives them to strengthen His church. Paul writes, “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” If you belong to Christ, then “no one is left giftless. Everyone gets something.”

These gifts are diverse. Paul lists prophecy, service, teaching, exhortation, giving, leading, and mercy. Mark explains, “The lists are not exhaustive. They are illustrative.” God’s design is variety. Some speak. Some support. Some steer. Each gift matters. “Every function is necessary for the whole body to thrive.” When you serve, the church grows. When you withhold, the church weakens. Grace unites, strengthens, and builds.

So how do you discover your gift? Mark gives simple counsel. “Start serving.” Needs reveal gifts. Opportunity reveals calling. Fruit reveals effectiveness. Where you build others up, where mature believers affirm you, where the church is strengthened, there your spiritual gift is at work. “Your gift often appears where your passion meets your effectiveness.” Trust God to guide you.

Serving is the final rejection of pride. Mark says, “Pride demands a platform. Grace takes up a towel.” Pride withholds. Grace gives. Pride says, “This is beneath me.” Grace says, “For the common good.” Your spiritual gift is not for you. It is for Christ’s body. It is for His glory. It is for the people He loves.

So today, ask God to help you serve. Look for a need. Offer your hands. “Because of the grace God has given you, serve one another using your spiritual gift for the common good.”

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the grace that gives and the grace that empowers. Help me serve joyfully, faithfully, and humbly, for the good of Your church and the glory of Your name. Amen.
