Jesus: Son, Heir, Creator, Sustainer

Thursday, November 13’s devotional.

Jesus is not one among many. He is not a mere teacher, prophet, or reformer. He is the Son of God—unique, eternal, divine. Andre said, “Unless you have Jesus, you have nothing.” That is not exaggeration. That is truth. Hebrews 1:2–3 lifts our eyes to behold Christ’s supremacy. “In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son. God has appointed him heir of all things and made the universe through him. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word.” Every phrase declares His majesty. Every word exalts His name.

Jesus is the Son of God. He is not simply God’s messenger. He is God’s self-revelation. The prophets spoke about God. Jesus speaks as God. To see Him is to see the Father. To hear Him is to hear the voice of heaven. Andre reminded us, “He is in a league all by himself. He surpasses the angels, surpasses Moses, surpasses the priests.” That is why Scripture says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Jesus is not optional to faith. He is the object of faith. The Son reveals the Father, and only through the Son can we truly know God.

But Jesus is more than Son. He is “the heir of all things.” The church—His redeemed bride—is His inheritance. And by grace, believers are “heirs of God and coheirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17). The Father has given all things to the Son, and the Son shares His inheritance with us. He is also “the creator of all things.” Nothing exists without Him. “For everything was created by him, in heaven and on earth… all things have been created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16). The Creator of galaxies is the same Saviour who died for you. The eternal Word became flesh. The infinite entered the finite.

And He sustains all things. “He holds all things together by his powerful word.” Andre said, “If he is able to sustain creation and history, do you think he will forsake you?” That question pierces the heart. If Christ holds the stars in place, He can hold you when life unravels. If His word sustains every atom, He can sustain your soul. The One who spoke light into existence will not fail to shine in your darkness.

Let us pray.
Lord Jesus, Son of God, heir of all things, creator and sustainer of life—lift my eyes to see Your glory. Forgive me for shrinking You down to my size. Teach me to trust Your power and rest in Your care. When I am weary, remind me that You hold all things together—even me. May my life proclaim, “What a great Saviour. What an awesome God.” Amen.
