Waiting is one of the hardest parts of the Christian life. We pray, but the answer seems delayed. We struggle, yet the burden remains. Like Judah in exile, we may wonder whether God has forgotten us. Isaiah answers those weary hearts with hope: “Those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary; they will walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31, CSB). Andre reminds us, “Stop looking at yourself. Look up. Behold your God.” Strength is found not by looking inward but by fixing our eyes on the Lord whose power never fails.
The exiles felt abandoned. Their homeland was gone, their future seemed uncertain, and they questioned whether God still cared for them. Isaiah gently asks, “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary; there is no limit to his understanding” (Isaiah 40:28, CSB). Unlike us, God never grows tired, never loses control, and never runs out of wisdom. While our strength fades like grass, His strength remains infinite. Waiting on the Lord is not passive resignation. It is confident dependence upon the God who always keeps His promises.
Andre offers this encouragement: “If you will look at God’s Word and His promises and the God who gave it, strength comes to your weary heart.” He continues, “The Lord is with you. The Lord wants to do a work inside of you.” That is the hope of the gospel. Jesus Christ carried the full weight of our sin at the cross so that we would never carry the burden of God’s judgment. Through His resurrection, He secured new life for everyone who trusts in Him. Because Christ lives, weary believers have an unfailing source of strength. Our hope does not rest in our ability to endure but in the One who faithfully holds us through every trial.
Perhaps you feel exhausted today. You have prayed, waited, and wondered when God will act. Do not mistake His silence for His absence. Return to His Word. Fill your mind with His promises. Bring your weakness honestly before Him in prayer. The Lord delights to strengthen those who know they cannot stand on their own. As you wait upon Him, He will sustain you day by day until His perfect purposes are fulfilled. Lift your eyes once more and behold your God. The One who never grows weary will give strength to those who trust in Him.
Heavenly Father, thank You that You never grow weary and that Your understanding has no limits. Forgive me for relying on my own strength instead of resting in Yours. Help me to wait upon You with confidence, trusting every promise You have spoken. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ to bear my sin and secure my hope forever. Renew my strength today through Your Word and by Your Spirit. Keep my eyes fixed on You until the day my faith becomes sight. Amen.
