A digest of our elders shepherding meeting, 25 June 2026

Elders of Benoni Baptist Church

Our elders meet every second week, alternating our attention between oversight and shepherding. This past Thursday we read Scripture, prayed, and exercised pastoral care. In keeping with our desire to remain transparent, here is a digest of key items from our meeting.

We discussed the spiritual vitality of our own soul, and family, and offered prayer for one another.

We discussed the spiritual vitality, and prayed intently for a number of members under our care. We work systematically through the membership list.

We reviewed pastorally sensitive situations. We offered one another counsel, and organised benevolent support where needed. We spent time in prayer for difficult scenarios.

We made a decision that Evans, together with Lance, as pastoral assistants, will be joining for relevant sections of our elders’ meetings which don’t require confidentiality.

We discussed the 12 people who have recently completed our membership process. 7 people have expressed desire for the next membership intake. We are organising a Pizza with the Pastor in July so that the elders can interact with the new comers.

We reviewed the upcoming elder and deacon nominations and renominations. All will be interviewed by the executive at our next joint meeting. Nominations will be presented to the congregation well ahead of the Annual General Meeting so the congregation can prayerfully consider them.

We are excited to announce that a new Community Life Group is envisaged for Northmead. This group will have the same ethos envisioned for the Atlasville and Farrarmere groups.

We made a decision to move communion to Sunday, 12 July. Partly to accommodate Holiday Bible Club on Sunday, 5 July. Mark will preach on 1 Corinthians 11 on the day, and we will have a bring and share after in the fellowship hall, followed by communion. This is to foster deeper fellowship in our community.

The one item of oversight we discussed involved the painting of the main hall. The elders will speak together with the deacons on Sunday, and possibly bring a proposal to the church thereafter.

Thank you for your ongoing prayers as we seek to shepherd the flock God has entrusted to us.
