Your Inheritance Is Secure

11 July 2026

The book of Ruth closes with what may seem like an ordinary genealogy. Yet every name tells part of God’s unfolding plan. Scripture concludes, “Boaz fathered Obed, Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David” (Ruth 4:21–22, CSB). Those final verses reveal that Ruth’s story was never merely about one family. As Mark Penrith explains, “The local story suddenly expands into a majestic royal anthem that shapes the destiny of a nation.” God was quietly establishing the royal line that would one day lead to His promised King.

The original readers would have recognised the significance immediately. David’s throne had not been established through political power or military strength. It began with God’s gracious work through ordinary people who trusted Him. Mark says, “Yahweh built the Davidic monarchy through a costly redemptive act, not human strength or bloodline.” What appeared to be a simple account of redemption at Bethlehem’s city gate became part of God’s sovereign plan to bless the world.

The genealogy reaches its fulfilment in Jesus Christ. The angel declared to Mary, “The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end” (Luke 1:32–33, CSB). Mark reminds us, “Greater than Boaz, Christ’s costly redemption secures our eternal inheritance.” Through His death and resurrection, Jesus secured a permanent inheritance for everyone who trusts Him. Our future does not depend on our performance, our family background, or our ability to remain strong. It rests entirely on our faithful Redeemer.

Because your inheritance is secure, you are free to live faithfully today. You do not obey Christ to earn His favour. You obey because His favour has already been secured through the gospel. Love your spouse sacrificially. Lead your children with humility. Serve your local church with joy. Pray together as a family that your home will be known for faithfulness to Christ rather than worldly success. As Mark encourages believers, “Keep your covenant commitments in your marriage, your parenting, and your church.” Your labour is never wasted because your future is safely held by the King whose kingdom will never end.

Prayer

Father, thank You for securing my eternal inheritance through Jesus Christ. Help me to live faithfully each day with confidence in Your promises and for the glory of Your name. Amen.
