We sing to build up the church and glorify God. Singing lets the word of Christ dwell richly among us (Colossians 3:16). It unites our hearts, shapes our desires, and teaches us truth.
We choose songs that are biblically sound, doctrinally clear, and pastorally wise. Our goal is to help people sing with both heart and understanding (1 Corinthians 14:15).
We sing a range of styles for the sake of all believers. We include Traditional Hymns. These songs, often written before the 20th century, are rich in theology, tested by time, and familiar to older saints. Hymns like “Crown Him with Many Crowns” and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” teach us to think deeply and sing robustly.
We sing Modern Hymns. These are recently written songs that retain a hymn structure and doctrinal clarity. Songs like “In Christ Alone” and “Yet Not I but Through Christ in Me” help connect younger families to sound theology with fresh expression.
We also sing a small number of Christian Contemporary Songs. These use current musical styles to help the church respond in praise and devotion. Songs like “Indescribable” and “His Mercy is More” are doctrinally careful and pastorally fitting.
We have a defined repertoire to help our worship leaders select appropriate songs. At present the ratio between styles is 19 traditional hymns, to 24 modern hymns, to 10 Christian contemporary songs. Each week we aim to sing 1-2 traditional hymns. And 2-3 modern hymns. We also aim to repeat one in song from the week before for continuity.
We do not use songs from churches whose teaching contradicts matters of primary importance. For this reason, we have removed music from Hillsong, Bethel, and Elevation. While some of their lyrics may be true, their ministries promote serious error (2 Peter 2:1-3). We are called to test everything (1 Thessalonians 5:21) and to sing what is good, true, and wise.
We aim to sing songs that help fathers sing with their wives and children. Songs that stir conviction, clarity, and confidence in Christ. Our aim is a singing church. A church that sings the Word. A church that sings the gospel. A church that sings to one another, and to God.
