Sarah’s womb was dead. Abraham’s body as good as dead. Yet God spoke. At this time I will come, and Sarah will have a son (Romans 9:9). Mark said, “Isaac was not conceived by passion. He was called by promise. Not birthed by effort. But delivered by decree.” That is the point. The promise came to pass because God overruled nature. Salvation is always supernatural.
Abraham fathered Ishmael. He fathered sons through Keturah. But the covenant cut them off. “His covenant blade cut clean between blood and blessing.” Isaac alone was named as the child of promise. This was not about the natural order. It was about God’s sovereign call. “True sonship springs from divine promise.” Isaac’s life began because God’s word broke through the impossible.
Consider Sarah. Old. Weary. Womb lifeless for decades. Then God came. The One who calls the stars by name called a son into her arms. “God’s oath defies nature. With Him all things are possible.” Isaac’s birth laughs in the face of human impossibility. It is a living parable of salvation. Our rescue is no more the result of human ability than Sarah’s pregnancy was the result of human vitality.
Where do you feel stuck in the “impossible”? You may have prayed for years. You may feel the barrenness of unanswered longing. Isaac’s birth says, God can still act. He can open wombs, heal hearts, restore prodigals, save the hardest sinner. His promise does not depend on our capacity. It rests on His power.
Mark reminded us, “The promise prevails. Overriding nature. Nullifying human merit.” Your family tree will not save you. Your good works cannot deliver you. God brings life where there was none. He brings hope where there was only despair. And He does it by His own sovereign choice, for His own glory.
Lord, You opened Sarah’s womb. You raised Christ from the grave. There is nothing too hard for You. Help us trust You when the way is shut. Help us pray for what only You can do. And help us wait in faith until Your promise comes. Amen.
