The King Who Takes Control

30 March 2025

Jesus approaches Jerusalem with purpose. Mark Penrith writes, “Jesus is not making travel plans. He is taking sovereign control.” This is no ordinary journey. “He sends two disciples ahead with precise instructions.” Scripture records His words, “Go into the village ahead of you. At once you will find a donkey tied there with her colt. Untie them and bring them to me” (Matthew 21:2). Every step is deliberate. Every detail is governed. Mark shows us a King who rules, not reacts.

This matters for how you see your life. “He is not reacting to His circumstance. Jesus is orchestrating circumstances.” You often feel pushed by deadlines, meetings, and expectations. But Christ is never pushed. He rules. He reigns. Even here, just outside Jerusalem, “He asserts His authority before He even enters the city.” The same King stands over your day. Over your work. Over your pressures. Nothing slips past His hand.

Matthew wants you to see more. “This took place so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled.” Jesus fulfils Scripture with precision. He fulfils purpose with authority. “Jesus sovereignly orchestrates His entry.” He is not swept along by events. He writes them. He directs them. Even the donkey is not incidental. It is intentional. It is planned. It is governed by the King who fulfils every word of God.

So you must respond. Your day is not random. Your schedule is not ultimate. Christ is. “He is the divine author of passion week.” And He is the Lord of your Monday morning. Before the emails. Before the meetings. Before the noise. Pause. Bow your heart. Say it plainly. Lord, You are in control. I will follow. Let your work become worship. Let your decisions reflect His rule.

Bring this into your home. “Jesus is not making travel plans. He is taking sovereign control.” Your children need to hear that. They need to see that. Tell them tonight. Jesus is never surprised. Not by your day. Not by theirs. Train their hearts to trust the King who rules all things well.

“Jesus will not be a victim of the week to come.” And He is not a victim in your life either. He is Lord. He is King. He is in control.

Where are you acting like life is out of control instead of under Christ’s rule?

Lord Jesus, You are in control. Rule my heart, guide my steps, and teach me to trust You today. Amen.
