Carols by Candlelight
Carols by Candlelight has come and gone (see pictures below). What a memorable evening it was! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who volunteered—you were amazing. I met with the organising committee this morning, and the consensus was the day was a success. Personally, I was encouraged by the opportunity to share the gospel with an estimated 4,000–5,000 Benonians, and by the distribution of gospel tracts. Not everything went smoothly, including some technical issues, and we’ll learn from these challenges to make future events even better.
Upcoming Events
As we enter the heart of the festive season, here are some key dates to note:
- Sunday, 15 December: After the morning service. Join us in the fellowship hall for Christmas cake and mince pies.
- Wednesday, 25 December (Christmas Day Service): 8:30–9:45 AM. Bring family and friends for a celebration of carols and the gospel.
- Tuesday, 31 December (New Year’s Eve): 8:00 PM–12:00 AM. A bring-and-braai fellowship with testimonies, worship around the fire, and a short devotion. The Royal Variety Concert will be playing in the fellowship hall.
A decision was made not to have the Christmas diner this year, as the event calendar was full, and our hospitality team needed a break.
Church office
Please note the church office will be closed from 20 December to 2 January.
Financial Update
In November, our giving fell 13% short of our expenses. While we remain above expenses year to date, we had hoped to be in a stronger financial position by this time. As we prayerfully pursue calling an assistant pastor for the sake of the gospel in our city, let’s continue to trust God and consider how we might participate in His work through giving in Benoni (Bank details: First National Bank. A New Chapter
I’m excited to share that the elders have tasked Lance Long with directing worship at Benoni Baptist Church. Lance brings theological depth and a love for worship music to this role, and he will work closely with the worship leaders to develop and strengthen our teams. As we reflect on a full and blessed year, I’m reminded of God’s faithfulness to us as a church. Let’s end the year with gratitude, resolve, and anticipation of what He will do in 2025. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday as we continue to celebrate the gift of Christ together.
