A Life of Devotion and Worship

Saturday, January 18’s devotional. Romans 12:1-2 calls us to present our bodies as “a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.” This act of devotion is not merely about ritual but about a life surrendered entirely to God’s glory. Kgomotso reminded us, “The heart of man is an idol factory,” highlighting our tendency to place our trust in created things rather than the Creator. He emphasized, “All glory belongs to God,” urging us to reflect on our daily choices and ensure they honor God alone.

The act of continuous worship involves not just our Sunday gatherings but our daily rejection of idols. As the Psalmist declares, “But we will bless the Lord from this time forth and forevermore” (Psalm 115:18). Kgomotso emphasized that this praise is not intermittent but a perpetual acknowledgment of God’s sovereignty and goodness. He reminded us that “our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases” (Psalm 115:3), a powerful affirmation of God’s ultimate control over all.

We are encouraged to live lives fully devoted to God’s glory, rejecting the idols that vie for our attention. Kgomotso quoted John Piper, “If God were not infinitely devoted to the preservation, display, and enjoyment of His glory, we could have no hope of finding happiness in Him.” This underscores the central truth that our deepest joy is found in God’s glory, not in the fleeting satisfaction of idols.

Matthew Henry once said, “The more we know of God, the more we shall desire to know of Him.” This desire for God deepens our devotion and drives us to live lives of worship. It aligns with Benoni Baptist Church’s principle that “each Christian has direct access to God through Christ our High Priest,” encouraging us to engage actively in our faith journey, seeking God’s presence daily.

Lord, we come before You, surrendering our hearts and lives. Help us to lay down our idols and present ourselves as living sacrifices. Teach us to worship You in spirit and truth, devoted entirely to Your glory. Empower us through Your Spirit to live lives that reflect Your love and faithfulness. May our daily walk be a testimony of Your grace and an offering of worship that pleases You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
