Offer Yourself to God as an Instrument for Righteousness

This week’s series of blog posts have been created from Mark’s notes rather than a transcript of the sermon. This hopefully will give you additional insight into the passage. You can download Mark’s sermon notes below.

Saturday, February 22’s devotional. “Present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.” (Romans 6:13, CSB)

Every moment of your life is an offering—either to sin or to God. Paul commands believers to surrender themselves to God, not as passive bystanders but as active participants in righteousness. Mark explained, “There is no neutral ground. Every part of your being—your hands, your mind, your voice—is either being used for sin or for God’s glory. The question is, who will you serve?”

Paul contrasts two paths: “And do not offer any parts of it to sin as weapons for unrighteousness. But as those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God, and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness.” (Romans 6:13, CSB). Your body, your time, your talents—these are tools in the hands of a master. Will you place them in the hands of sin, or will you place them in the hands of God?

Offering yourself to God is an act of worship. It means surrendering control, laying aside selfish ambitions, and choosing to live for His purposes. Too often, believers live as if their lives belong to them. But Paul reminds us—you have been brought from death to life. You are no longer your own. True freedom is found in living fully for Christ, not clinging to the remnants of a sinful past.

But this surrender is not just about avoiding sin; it is about actively pursuing righteousness. Paul declares, “For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under the law but under grace.” (Romans 6:14, CSB). Mark encouraged, “Grace is not just about what you are saved from; it is about what you are saved for. You are saved for holiness. You are saved to glorify God with your whole life.”

Living as an instrument of righteousness means aligning your thoughts, words, and actions with God’s will. What would change if you woke up every morning and said, ‘Lord, use me today—my hands to serve, my voice to encourage, my mind to think on what is pure’?

Application:
Dedicate yourself to God today. Offer your time, energy, and talents as instruments for His kingdom. Ask Him to use you for His glory.

Prayer:
Father, I surrender myself to You. Use my life as an instrument of righteousness. Let my hands, my words, and my thoughts glorify You today. Amen.
