The Reality of Jesus – The Foundation of Fellowship

Tuesday, March 4’s devotional. “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have observed and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— that life was revealed, and we have seen it and we testify and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.” (1 John 1:1-2, CSB)

As Robin explains, John begins his letter with a powerful testimony: Jesus Christ is real. He was seen, heard, and touched. John wants us to know that our faith is not built on myths or abstract ideas but on the living Christ, who walked among us. “The beautiful fellowship is only possible because Jesus is real.” The world offers many counterfeit beliefs, from nature worship to impersonal spiritual forces, but true fellowship with God comes through a living Savior.

Why does John emphasize the physical reality of Jesus? Because false teachers were spreading lies, denying either His full humanity or His full divinity. But John had personal experience—he spoke with Christ, ate with Him, and saw His glory. “For something like three and a half years, John experienced a personal, intimate, beautiful fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and it was only possible because Jesus was and still is very real.” Fellowship with God is not built on emotions or mystical experiences but on the historical, incarnate Son of God.

Charles Spurgeon once said, “If Christ be not all to you, He is nothing to you. He will never go into partnership as a part Savior of men. If He be something, He must be everything, and if He be not everything, He is nothing to you.” The reality of Christ demands our complete trust and devotion. He is not a distant idea or an imaginary comfort—He is the living Lord, ruling and reigning today.

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus, who is fully God and fully man. Help us to grasp the depth of His reality so that our faith may not waver. May we experience the beauty of fellowship with You and with one another, rooted in the truth of Christ. Keep us from falsehood and draw us closer to You each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
