Responding to God’s Providence with Awe

This week’s series of blog posts have been created from Stephan’s notes rather than a transcript of the sermon. This hopefully will give you additional insight into the passage. You can download Stephan’s sermon notes below.

Tuesday, April 1’s devotional. When God led Israel out of Egypt, He took them on a path they did not expect. “When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road to the land of the Philistines, even though it was nearby. For God said, ‘The people will change their minds and return to Egypt if they face war.’ So He led the people around toward the Red Sea along the road of the wilderness” (Exodus 13:17-18). Stephan Museler explained, “This was not just a decision of strategy—it was an act of divine wisdom. God’s providence directs our lives with purpose, even when we do not see it.”

Our response to God’s providence should be awe, not fear. when we realize God is actively guiding every step, we should not be anxious about where He leads. Often, we question God’s path when it seems difficult or unclear. However, He sees what we cannot. “Israel may have wondered why God took them the long way, but He knew the dangers ahead and protected them from what would have crushed their faith.”

God’s providence is not random; it is intentional. “The wilderness was not a mistake—it was part of God’s perfect plan,” Stephan said. Instead of responding with doubt, we should respond with confidence. “If we truly believe God is sovereign, then we can trust that every detour, every delay, and every difficulty is under His control.”

Many of us struggle to see God’s hand in our own lives. When hardships come, we ask, “Where is God?” But His providence is always at work. “The call for us is to look at our circumstances through the lens of faith and respond with worship,” Stephan reminded us. Exodus 15:11 declares, “Lord, who is like you among the gods? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, revered with praises, performing wonders?”

If you find yourself in a season of uncertainty, ask yourself: Am I responding to God’s providence with awe or with fear? Trust that He knows the road ahead. Let His wisdom lead you to worship, not worry.

Prayer: Lord, You are wise in all Your ways. Help me to trust Your providence and respond with awe, knowing that You are leading me in love. Open my eyes to recognize Your hand in my journey. Amen.

This devotional content is not penned by the preacher. It is derived from the sermon notes. We aim to provide bite-sized reflections throughout the week for devotion and reflection.
