God’s Word Never Fails

11 August 2025

“Now it is not as though the word of God has failed, for not all who are descended from Israel are Israel” (Romans 9:6). Paul opens with a question every Jewish believer in his day would have felt. If Israel had rejected their Messiah, had God’s Word failed? Mark began here, reminding us that “Israel had every advantage… yet they rejected their Messiah. Their heritage a hollow shell. Their faith false.” This was not just their crisis. It is ours too when we see promises tested by unbelief.

Mark pointed out that Paul’s answer “thunders… not all Israel is Israel.” Heritage does not make you part of God’s people. God’s covenant is not about “bloodline… birth certificate… ritual.” True Israel is defined by promise, not performance. God’s choice, not human effort, determines who belongs. For first-century Jews clinging to lineage, this was hard to hear. For us, it cuts deep into pride and self-reliance.

“God’s Word stands,” Mark said, “because God fulfils it through His sovereign choice.” The promises of God never crumble under unbelief. They are upheld by His own power and faithfulness. Our spiritual résumé, however impressive, “cannot save you… salvation rests on God’s call, not your credentials.” That truth humbles the religious and offers hope to the desperate.

When life shakes your confidence, remember that “His Word never stumbles… His Word never falters.” God has always loved His people, not because of ethnicity or effort, but because of His sovereign election. This means your security is rooted in His will, not your works. In Christ, the promises are “Yes and Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20). Whether you are tempted to boast in your heritage or despair over your failures, the call is the same: “Flee the lie of human merit… flee to Christ’s cross.”

So stop measuring your standing with God by your past experiences or family background. Anchor yourself in His unshakable Word. This week, open Scripture each day with your children. Read one promise aloud. Remind them that no failure, no circumstance, no unbelief can make God break His Word. Let His promises be the solid ground under your feet.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that Your Word never fails. Teach me to rest in Your promises and not my own performance. Help me lead my family to trust You above all else. Amen.
