February is shaping up to be a significant month in the life of our church. Below are a few dates to mark in your diary.
So you know, this Sunday, 25 January, is the Johnson Crane Hire Marathon. The route shuffles past the church on Wordsworth Road. From experience, the marathon is well organised, and there is very little impact on traffic flow. But you may want to leave home a little early. To make sure you secure your favourite seat at the morning service.
I met with the elders yesterday, and we spent time discussing our vision for Benoni Baptist Church into the future. Our hearts are dreaming big. Last Sunday, I preached on Jesus’ Mission for the Church. The elders asked that I continue the theme. This Sunday, 25 January, at our evening service, I will preach on Jesus’ Strategy for the Church. Then, next Sunday morning, 1 February, I will preach on Jesus’ Vision for the Church, and tell you what we’re hoping for. The vision is exciting. And it is bigger than us. It’s something God can only do.
Several evangelistic activities are scheduled for the month of February. On Sunday, 1 February, at 2:00pm, we will head out for outreach to the Old People’s Home. And on Tuesday, 10 February, at 10:00am, there will be outreach at Rynpark. If you’d like to be kept updated about evangelism activities, speak to Evans.
We have two monthly Bible study activities in February. On Saturday, 14 February, at 9:00am, we will hold our monthly men’s meeting. Janco Mocke, pastor of St Andrew’s Presbyterian, who will address our men. Trevor can provide further details. On Saturday, 28 February, we will hold our monthly ladies’ meeting. The topic will be Turning Things Around.
On Sunday, 15 February, after the morning service, we will hold our quarterly general meeting, followed by a church braai. More details will follow.
Later in the month, on Sunday, 22 February, we will host Barry and Julia Funnell. Barry is one of Terry (a former pastor at Benoni Baptist Church) and Iris Funnell’s three sons. During his years at Benoni, Barry suffered a life-changing accident that left him a paraplegic. The Lord sustained him. He qualified as a dentist and later entered Bible translation ministry. Today, Barry and Julia serve with Word for the World, overseeing Bible translations. The entire Sunday will have a missions focus, including our 6:00pm evening service.
