On Sunday, 22 February, we will have a focus on reaching the world with the gospel. In the morning service, we will host our missionaries, Barry and Julia Funnell. At the service, Barry will preach. Barry trained as a dentist before the Lord led him into Bible translation ministry in 1991. He holds a Licentiate in Christian Ministries, specialising in Bible Translation. And an MA in Sociolinguistics from UNISA. Barry serves as Director of Consulting Services for The Word for the World. He coordinates Bible translation consultants. He has worked with more than forty languages across Africa and Asia. Has helped complete the Sena Bible in Malawi. And New Testament translations in ten Tanzanian languages. He and Julia live in Bedford in the UK and have three children. We thank God for lives spent getting the Word of God into the hands of people in their own language.
At our evening service, I will introduce a biblical philosophy of missions. Principles, priorities, and practices. It will be a helpful and shaping evening as we align our hearts with God’s global purposes.
There is a practical need. Barry and Julia need accommodation for Saturday night, 21 February. A step free home is best, with a bathroom suitable for limited mobility. They arrive at OR Tambo at 4:40pm on Saturday. And fly out at 7:35pm on Sunday. Transport to and from the airport would also be appreciated. If you are able to help with accommodation or lifts, please contact the church office as soon as possible. Let us serve those who serve the Word.
