Test What You Welcome

10 June 2026

John does not soften his warning. “Many deceivers have gone out into the world; they do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh” (2 John 7, CSB). Mark Penrith said, “This is not a small theological error.” The incarnation is not optional doctrine. It is the front door of the gospel. Jesus Christ truly came in human flesh. Real body. Real blood. Real death. Real resurrection. Without the real Jesus there is no real salvation. John calls these false teachers “the deceiver and the antichrist” (2 John 7, CSB) because they attack the very heart of Christianity.

The danger is not distant. It enters through voices we welcome every day. Podcasts. Videos. Books. Social media feeds. Mark warned, “Every click, every subscription, every share either builds gospel fidelity or undermines it.” Not every popular preacher speaks truth. Not every spiritual influencer leads people toward Christ. Some distort Him while sounding persuasive and polished. The modern church often mistakes confidence for faithfulness. Yet John commands believers to test doctrine carefully because truth protects the flock.

“Watch yourselves,” John writes, “so that you don’t lose what we have worked for” (2 John 8, CSB). Mark explained the urgency clearly, “Stand guard.” Christians do not drift toward truth naturally. We drift toward compromise unless we remain anchored in God’s Word. That is why doctrine matters in ordinary life. False teaching eventually reshapes how you think about sin, salvation, marriage, parenting, suffering, and holiness. Wrong views of Christ never remain contained. They spread. They weaken. They deceive.

John draws the line sharply. “Anyone who does not remain in Christ’s teaching but goes beyond it does not have God” (2 John 9, CSB). Mark said, “You cannot add to Christ. You cannot subtract from Christ.” Behold the simplicity of biblical discernment. Does this teacher faithfully proclaim the biblical Jesus? Audit your spiritual inputs today. Remove one unhealthy influence if necessary. Replace it with faithful teaching rooted in Scripture.

Parents especially must lead carefully here. Children absorb voices quickly. Teach them that popularity does not equal truth. Teach them to recognise trustworthy voices by measuring everything against Scripture. Mark reminded us, “True love demands truth testing.” Loving your family means guarding what shapes their understanding of Christ.

Prayer: Father, guard our hearts from deception. Help us remain faithful to the true Christ revealed in Your Word. Give us wisdom to test every voice carefully, for the sake of Your church and our families. Amen.
