Living with Confident Expectation

Saturday, May 3’s devotional. The world around us often crumbles beneath the weight of uncertainty. But for those who belong to Christ, we stand on a sure foundation. As Peter reminds us, we are “shielded by God’s power until the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:5, CSB). Our hope is not flimsy or wishful—it is living, steadfast, and anchored in the unchanging promises of God. As Robin said during the sermon, “This is not the kind of hope the non-Christian has; it is a living hope, a hope that is alive and well and absolutely certain.”

Hope for the Christian is a confident expectation, not a gamble. The salvation we long for, though not yet fully revealed, is absolutely secured by the power of God. It is not resting on our performance, nor is it vulnerable to the tides of this world. As Robin shared, “Because Jesus rose from the dead we can live confidently in our faith no matter what faces us.” Our hope is not an escape from reality but an intense anticipation of Christ’s final victory.

Peter’s encouragement echoes Paul’s exhortation: “But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled and put on the armor of faith and love, and a helmet of the hope of salvation” (1 Thessalonians 5:8, CSB). Our confident expectation protects our minds and fuels our endurance. Robin reminded us, “There’s absolutely no doubt involved in the Christian hope. It is a certainty because it’s wholly based on the mercy of God demonstrated in raising Jesus from the dead.” We are not simply holding on; we are held.

This inheritance that Peter describes is not a fragile possession, but “an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4, CSB). It is guarded by God’s omnipotent hand. The living hope within us flows from the resurrection of Christ, and our future is as secure as His victory. As Robin humbly marveled, “God has done more for us than we could ever imagine, and yet He still promises us an inheritance.”

Let us pray:
Father, we praise You for the living hope You have given us through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Thank You that our salvation is shielded by Your power and that our inheritance is safe with You. Strengthen our hearts with confident expectation. Keep us anchored in Your promises when the world seems hopeless. Teach us to long eagerly for the day when Christ will be fully revealed. Until then, help us live as children of the day, steadfast in faith, love, and hope. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
