The Resurrection Is Personal

14 June 2025

“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then he… will also bring your mortal bodies to life…” (Romans 8:11, CSB).

This is not just a hope for one day. It is power for today. The same Spirit who stood over the tomb of Jesus and brought breath back to His lungs is the Spirit who lives in you now. Mark Penrith reminded us, “That same Spirit, that same power, that same presence, will raise you up.”

This promise rests on two glorious truths: Jesus rose, and His Spirit dwells in you. If both are true—and they are—then your future is secure and your present is transformed. Mark explained, “Romans 8:11 anchors the gospel in resurrection power. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in believers. His presence guarantees their future resurrection.”

But resurrection power does not only prepare us for death. It empowers our life. Paul says God “will also bring your mortal bodies to life.” These aren’t just future bodies made new. These are today’s bodies made useful. Mark said, “The turning point is not effort. The turning point is indwelling… The turning point is life.” That means tired dads, stressed-out employees, and overwhelmed Christians can walk in strength not their own.

The same Spirit who brought Jesus out of the grave brings you out of apathy, fear, frustration, and sin. Mark illustrated it with hope: “Look to Lazarus in that tomb. Dead. Bound. Hopeless. But Jesus called him out. That same voice calls you now.” The resurrection is not just a doctrine to affirm, it is a voice to follow.

When you wake up to a long Monday or a heavy week, this truth is your fuel. Say it aloud: “The same Spirit who raised Jesus lives in me.” Let it reshape your attitude at work, your patience at home, and your faith in trial. Let it become your children’s comfort too. Mark said, “The Spirit of Christ in you guarantees your resurrection.”

The gospel declares that Christ lives. And because He lives, you live too.

Prayer:
Resurrecting Spirit, breathe life into my weary body today. Let me live by Your power, not my own. Amen.
