The Deliverer from Zion

Tuesday 14 October 2025

Paul writes, “And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, The Deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. And this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins” (Romans 11:26–27). Mark begins, “Zion’s Deliverer is Jesus Christ. The crucified one. The risen one.” The mystery of Israel’s future salvation rests not on national effort but on divine mercy. God’s covenant love has not failed. Christ is the fulfilment of every promise and the assurance that none of God’s words will fall to the ground.

“God’s covenant faithfulness stands. His word is sure,” Mark reminds us. The Deliverer from Zion is not a political saviour, but a Redeemer who turns away sin. When Isaiah first prophesied these words, he saw a nation deep in rebellion. Yet God Himself stepped in, saying, “The Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression” (Isaiah 59:20). In Christ, this promise is complete. He came once to bear sin. He will come again to restore His people. This is the gospel in its purest form—grace initiated, sustained, and perfected by God alone.

Mark continues, “It will happen by Zion’s Deliverer.” Jesus alone can remove the stain of sin. He alone fulfills the covenant. The same cross that opens mercy to Gentiles secures the future salvation of Israel. The Deliverer will come again, not to negotiate but to reign. God’s faithfulness to His ancient people is proof of His faithfulness to us. “The covenant of grace,” Mark calls it, “the promise of a land, a king, and an everlasting kingdom.” What God begins, He finishes. What He promises, He performs.

“Not nullification, but confirmation,” Mark says. Every believer can rest in that truth. Salvation does not depend on our resolve, but on God’s resolve to keep His word. His promises are not fragile. They are anchored in Christ. When you doubt, look to the Deliverer. When you fail, rest in His faithfulness. Every promise finds its “Yes” and “Amen” in Him (2 Corinthians 1:20).

Faithful God, thank You for sending Jesus, our Deliverer from Zion. Help me rest in His perfect work today. Strengthen my faith when I doubt and remind me that every promise in Christ is yes and amen. Amen.
